Webster Union Cemetery - Section 1 History and Headstone Preservation Project was formed to repair, clean, and preserve headstones in the oldest section (Section 1) of the cemetery. Some of these headstones date back to the 1800s and are deteriorating from age and weather.

Family and community history will be lost to future generations if they are ignored. There is research with documentation being gathered for as much history on Webster’s early settlers available.

A small group of volunteers committed to preserving these headstones and the history invite you to learn more about the efforts by volunteering for events, tours, research, and other activities. We hope to recruit people with “a roll up your sleeves attitude”.

Help us care for stones belonging to Webster’s earliest settlers, inventors, and those who named our roads. Everyone from a Revolutionary War spy to suffragettes fighting for the vote. They all have a story.

Many of their headstones are over 200 years old. Please join us as we protect their stones and stories for future generations.

One recent event was a headstone cleaning class where volunteers learned the correct way to clean a headstone using proper solution and tools. The class was a success, with many requests to have an additional class.

This photo shows our first class, who worked all morning and cleaned 25 headstones.
